In this context, there has been increasing interest in the biological effects of flavonoids, a class of polyphenolic compounds, as potential nutraceuticals with several beneficial biological actions, including cardio protection, neuroprotection, and neuromodulation.

The Cacao bean has long been recognized as one of the richest source of flavonoids, mainly the flavanols subclass in the form of epicatechin and catechin. Cacao also contains other functional ingredients, such as the methylxanthine [caffeine and theobromine], with the potential to influence neurocognitive function.

Traditionally it was thought that the low levels of caffeine and theobromine relative to total flavanols content was not enough to have a significant pharmacological impact. However our patented process has levels of Theobromine up to 10634mg/kg and Caffeine 1273mg/kg and total Procyanidin of 19013mg/kg. These levels mean that strong pharmacological effects take place.

Amyloid precursor protein processing and the subsequent generation of amyloid beta (Ab) are central to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. Numerous epidemiologic studies indicate that a regular intake of flavonoids could be associated with improved cognitive function higher neuroprotection, decreasing risks of dementia and cognitive decline by impacting amyloid protein plaque.
