RECOCOA
Population Health

From reactive healthcare to preventative health.

Our technology has an important role to play. Health systems were built around acute illness. The dominant burden is now chronic disease that develops over decades. Preventative and population health approaches aim to intervene earlier and reduce that long-term burden. This is critical in an age where the state no longer can afford the increasing financial burden of health care costs as populations age. The age of precision health care has arrived allowing us to predict, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases more precisely.

Conceptual comparison of two care models. It describes a direction of travel in health policy and practice. It is not a claim about guaranteed outcomes.

Why the model must change

Chronic disease has changed the healthcare challenge.

43 million1

DEATHS A YEAR

Noncommunicable diseases account for roughly three quarters of deaths worldwide.

2.1 billion2

PEOPLE AGED 60 AND OVER BY 2050

Longer lives extend the period in which chronic conditions develop.

17.9 million3

CARDIOVASCULAR DEATHS A YEAR

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading single cause of death.

DELIVERY AND COMMISSIONING

Services are frequently funded reactively rather than as connected preventative pathways.

The cardiometabolic challenge

Related conditions, one connected challenge.

Obesity, insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and hypertension are interconnected components of a growing global cardiometabolic challenge. Together they contribute substantially to cardiovascular disease and reduced healthspan.4,5,6

The relationships shown are interconnected, not an inevitable progression. Individual pathways vary. Nothing here is a treatment claim.

Prevention

Intervene earlier.

In the established model, risk becomes disease before the system responds. A preventative model works upstream of diagnosis.

  1. 01

    Risk identification

    Recognising elevated cardiometabolic risk earlier.

  2. 02

    Earlier intervention

    Acting before conditions become established.

  3. 03

    Ongoing support

Sustained nutrition, lifestyle and clinical input.

  4. 04

    Monitoring

Measurement over time rather than at a single appointment.

  5. 05

    Better management

Care organised around long-term health, not episodes.

This describes a changing healthcare paradigm. No single company delivers it. ReCocoa does not.

Health is more than medicine

Population health is becoming a convergence.

Medical science increasingly sits alongside nutrition, diagnostics, monitoring, digital technology and behavioural support. The white paper cited below argues that connected approaches, rather than isolated interventions, are what improve outcomes at population scale.7 The fields below are areas of activity across the sector. They are not ReCocoa capabilities.

Where ReCocoa fits

One technology component within a larger system.

ReCocoa has developed a flavanol technology platform. Its focus on characterised bioactive flavanols places the technology at the point where nutrition, medical foods, botanicals and health science meet.

We make no claim to prevent obesity, diabetes, hypertension or cardiovascular disease. Clinical evidence has not been established. What we can say is narrower and more useful: preventative population health will require characterised, manufacturable, evidence based components, and we are building one of them.

Nutrition
Everyday food as a route to sustained intake.
Medical foods
Standardised composition for defined dietary use.
Botanicals
Characterised plant derived bioactives.
Health science
Mechanistic and analytical evidence.
Future therapeutics
Regulated development, subject to clinical evidence.
Partnership model

Evidence is built with others, or not at all.

The pathway below is an intended route, not a record of achievements.
